With @MarvelStudios teaming up with Whatnot to drop randomized X-Men '97, Daredevil, and Captain America packs—and @veefriends blind-packs comics selling out instantly—you can’t ignore the hype. But does the thrill of the rip help or hurt the long game?

On one hand, these drops have clearly re-energized the space. We're seeing:

Immediate sellouts

Live unboxings that trend on social

New collectors entering the hobby from trading cards & NFTs

And frankly, more excitement than we’ve seen in years

But… is it sustainable?

Are we building long-term collectors—or just creating a temporary rush of speculation and FOMO? Are we chasing real grails, or turning comics into lottery tickets?

If you look at recent numbers, some of these pack-based drops are outselling traditional floppies on release week. That’s no small feat. But the real question is: will those comics still hold value—or relevance—in 5 years?

Personally, I think the pack model has huge potential, especially when tied to strong IP, limited print runs, and good storytelling. But as always, it depends on execution—and whether platforms treat collectors with transparency and respect.

What do you think? Have comic packs helped bring life back into the hobby—or are they just a flashy distraction?
